The Florida Allied Dental Educators’ Association (FADE) is a unique opportunity for all dental assisting, dental hygiene, and dental technology instructors to come together to discuss pertinent educational issues in the state of Florida. This past December the efforts of FADE, combined with those of other professional organizations, were effective in preventing the rule changes proposed to the Board of Dentistry (BOD) that would have altered the educational requirements and parameters of clinical practice of the dental assistant in regards to scaling and probing.
Other items of interest for FADE Members to consider:
- Phillips Sonicare has provided FADE with a $3500.00 Grant to be awarded annually. The grant will provide for a reduction in the cost of meeting registrations for all current members, as well as additional monies awarded to FADE members who meet the specific criteria. Please see the FADE Website for criteria details.
- The FADE Website (www.fadeedu.org) is undergoing some revisions at this time. Please let me know if you would like any additional information or links provided.
- Remember to inform your students that scholarships from FADE are available. Please download the applications for your students from the FADE Website.
- If you plan to attend a BOD meeting, please let me know.
The 2007 Annual Meeting held at Daytona Beach Community College was a great success. The 2008 Annual Meeting will be held at Brevard Community College on November 7th and 8th. Mark your calendars now to attend, and please invite all your full and part-time instructors to attend as well!
I would encourage each of you to continue to support FADE and ask your colleagues to become members as well. As we all endure the budget cuts and other issues, we can always find solutions by working together!
